What is a MMORPG game?

"The abbreviation stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game. It’s s type of game where a great number of people can interact with each other within a virtual world.

As in all role playing games, a player creates a character and then assumes the role of that character within the game world. You control the actions and behaviour of your character, within certain limits (created by your chosen race, class or faction).

The biggest difference between an MMORPG and other games are the sheer amount of players you can encounter. In a typical RPG, it’s just you and maybe your buddy that you’ve chosen to play with, and when you’re not online or present, the world just stops. In an MMORPG, the world is consistent, hosted by the game publishers, and it is there no matter if you’re online or not.

You need to have a decent internet connection to play a MMORPG, since it constantly gets information not just about what you do, but also what other players do at that same time. In an RPG, you don’t necessarily need an internet connection at all. It depends on the game"
